1,2,3… [Part III]: Quotes!

Ok… so maybe the above isn’t the best quote out there. But I do believe in the power of quotes to make a person feel spectacular and allow them to rise above adversity! Why else do we invest such energy into things like quote tattoos, artwork, jewellery, books, etc etc etc. So without further ado, let’s get to the good quotes!

1) “It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.”

I took the last stanza from the Invictus poem by William Ernest Henley. This is of course a snippet of the full poem but I fell in love with the last 2 lines while watching the always-memorable movie Invictus (2009). Simply another reminder that you control your life and you should not allow others to commandeer your ship. Your metaphorical ship I mean… well, your physical ship too if you have one in real life.

2) “Forget regret or life is yours to miss…”

This little line can be found in a number of songs from Jonathan Larson’s RENT! The classical musical and movie adaptation reminds us to cherish every moment and to never give up… no matter the hills and valleys you will encounter, live your life for your own and never regret the mistakes, choices, or achievements you make.

3) “The Wheel of Time turns, and ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legends fade to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again… There are neither beginnings or endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.”

This iconic opening to Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series obviously made it onto the list because I am obsessed with this series of books. But why did I choose it? Because it allows nerds like me (and you?), who do not believe in God, to believe in something which does not provide us with all the answers… essentially, a quote such as this allows for us to live in the world and make of it what we wish, away from the preconceived notions of others. We don’t require an answer with a quote like this, we can just accept things as they appear to us and appreciate that time is an infinite concept and we will all live out many lives and adventures.

I hope at least one of these lovely little quotes gave you some inspiration on this fine Saturday night!

Much Lovin’,
The Chad.
